About Pounce

Pounce, Combat, designed by John McCrea first released in december 2001 in the set Bloodlines and was printed exactly in 3 different ways.

Pounce best fits rush/combat decks—especially those built around reliable hand damage and attrition—because it gives a free +2 damage strike and can shut down the opposing minion’s later strikes, but its value drops sharply against dodge-heavy decks, since a dodge both damages your minion and gives the opponent an optional press. In Potence combat, Immortal Grapple is generally better and more reliable because it restricts opposing strike cards without handing the opponent that dodge-related benefit, while Torn Signpost or other dedicated damage cards are usually preferable when your goal is simply to increase damage. Pounce is therefore a reasonable metagame or budget inclusion in a deck with no discipline requirements, particularly against decks that depend on multiple strikes or combat tricks, but it should not usually see broad competitive play: its inability to protect you from the opponent’s current strike and its punishing dodge clause make it too inconsistent compared with stro
