Resplendent Protector, Retainer, designed by Michael Weaver, Kieran Yanner first released in August 1994 in the set Jyhad and was printed exactly in 3 different ways.

Resplendent Protector is best in a Toreador deck that frequently enters combat but wants to preserve a key minion, especially a blocking or intercept vampire without enough built-in prevention. Its free cost and persistent prevention of 1 damage each combat can be useful against repeated small hits, but the retainer has only 1 life, so a single point of damage to it removes the effect; it also does nothing to prevent more than 1 damage per combat. For broader protection, Skin of Rock is generally better when the vampire can play it, since it can prevent more damage and is not a fragile retainer, while combat-focused decks may prefer prevention built into their combat package. Resplendent Protector is a reasonable low-cost niche choice if you have room for retainers and expect repeated combat, but it is not a card I would include by default.
