About Ghouled

Ghouled, Action modifier, designed by Brian LeBlanc first released in May 2003 in the set Anarchs.

Ghouled fits a **mortal-ally combat deck** that expects its allies to fight repeatedly: the extra life helps them survive, and access to a basic Potence strike can give an otherwise modest ally a useful combat option. It is less attractive in an ally deck focused on blocking or bleeding, where spending a card and its cost on a single ally may not do enough. For those plans, **The Unmasking** is generally a stronger inclusion because its +1 intercept benefits all your allies; if you mainly want an ally to hit harder, **Weighted Walking Stick** is a simpler option that does not depend on drawing Potence strike cards. Ghouled is playable as a niche choice if you have worthwhile mortal allies *and* Potence strikes in the deck, but I would not make it a default ally-deck card.

Rules

10/08/2026

The ally counts as "independent" when playing cards as a vampire [LSJ 20020503] [LSJ 20060126]

10/08/2026

Can be used to meet one (but not more than one) of the normal Discipline requirements of a multi-Discipline card. [LSJ 20011217] [LSJ 20090508]

10/08/2026

Multiple similar effects (e.g. two {Infernal Familiar}, or {Ian Forestal} with an {Infernal Familiar}) cannot be used to meet the requirements of a multi-Discipline card that the minion is missing one or more Disciplines to play. [LSJ 20020218]

10/08/2026

While a minion has an effect that allows them to play cards that require Discipline(s), they do not actually have those Discipline(s). [LSJ 19980303]

10/08/2026

While using their ability to meet a discipline requirement, they also meet that requirement for any other cards associated with the original effect (e.g. meeting the [ani] requirement for {Pack Alpha} or {Muricia's Call} also meets the [ani] requirement for the {Raven Spy} employed by that effect). [LSJ 20080205-2] [LSJ 20060417]

10/08/2026

Does not stack with similar effects (or another copy of itself) to provide superior version of the discipline(s) (e.g. {Leech} and {Putrescent Servitude} together does not provide superior [POT]) [ANK 20180111]

10/08/2026

Must be played (as well as other "as the action is announced" action modifiers) before action modifiers that are not explicitly played "as the action is announced" (e.g., {Conditioning}). [ANK 20190425]

10/08/2026

Replace the action card (if any) before playing it. [ANK 20181208]

10/08/2026

Ghouls are monsters, not mortal. [ANK 20200203-2] [LSJ 20060515]

10/08/2026

Goes to the ash heap when played, if it has been removed when the action succeeds, it has no effect. [ANK 20220805]

10/08/2026

The ally is recruited as a mortal and changed to a ghoul afterwards (eg. {Sunset Strip, Hollywood} can be used to reduce its cost). His "starting life" is still the base mortal amount. [LSJ 20030520-2]
