About Extremis Boon
Extremis Boon, Master, designed by David Day first released in November 2003 in the set Black Hand.
Extremis Boon is most useful in a deck that is both vulnerable to being ousted and able to recover value from surviving, especially a political or table-talk deck that can persuade another Methuselah to bid pool; it is less attractive when your deck can reliably defend itself or when opponents have little incentive to keep you alive. Its closest alternatives are other oust-prevention or survival tools, such as Villein-friendly pool management and cards that directly defend your prey or block attacks, but those are generally more reliable because they do not depend on opponents choosing to spend pool on you. The Boon can create a strong late-game bargaining option, yet its cost is that the high bidder can take up to 2 pool each master phase until you pay 6 to burn it, and it does nothing unless you are already being ousted. I would treat it as a niche meta call rather than a staple: include it when your group is politically negotiable and your deck benefits greatly from one more turn, o
