About Derange
Derange, Action, designed by Eric LaCombe first released in October 1996 in the set Sabbat and was printed exactly in 4 different ways.
Derange fits a Malkavian or Malkavian antitribu **stealth-bleed or control deck** that can spare actions to slow down a key younger vampire. Its zero cost and built-in +1 stealth are attractive, and the recurring blood cost can be especially punishing for a vampire already low on blood. It is not a hard lock, though: the target can pay to unlock and can take an action to move the card, while Malkavians and Malkavian antitribu cannot be targeted at all. If your deck can pass votes, **Banishment** is generally stronger for removing a younger vampire; **Pentex Subversion** is another option for disrupting a key vampire without spending a minion action. I would consider **one or two copies of Derange** in a deck that expects to exploit repeated blood drain, but it is too situational to be a staple.
Rules
10/08/2026
If another effect also changes the clan or sect (eg. {Clan Impersonation}, {Into the Fire}), the most recent one takes precedence. [LSJ 20021209]
10/08/2026
Is a temporary effect that overrides the underlying sect. The most recent override takes precedence. It stays active if another effect changes the underlying sect, like using the default action to become Anarch. [LSJ 20100811] [ANK 20190619]
10/08/2026
The "does not unlock as normal" effect is redundant with being infernal. If the minion is infernal, his controller can still pay a pool to unlock him. [LSJ 20050114]
10/08/2026
If the target changes clan or sect to a clan or sect inappropriate for their title, they lose its benefit until their clan or sect is appropriate. They immediately yield the title if it is contested or they receives a new one. [RTR 20201130] [LSJ 20060904]
10/08/2026
Only requires one clan or the other (Malkavian or Malkavian antitribu) to be played. [ANK 20190203]
10/08/2026
When removed, the vampire goes back to its underlying clan and sect. [RTR 20201130] [ANK 20200415]

The clan and sect assigned to Derange is set when the card is played and does not change when it is moved. [LSJ 20070707]
