About Curmudgeon

Curmudgeon, Master, designed by Leif Jones first released in May 2004 in the set Gehenna.

Curmudgeon is best suited to aggressive decks that intend to make their prey’s minions act—and, ideally, get blocked—such as combat or bruise-and-bleed decks; it can reward a block with a blood, but only if the chosen minion actually gets blocked that turn, so its payoff is unreliable and does not justify a slot in most decks. The main comparison is to other archetypes, which provide more dependable or strategically useful effects depending on your plan; for example, **Anarch Convert** is not an archetype but can help enable anarch strategies, while **Powerbase: Montreal** offers a more reliable blood-gain effect if that is what you need. Since a vampire can have only one archetype, Curmudgeon also competes directly with stronger archetype options, so I’d generally skip it unless your deck can reliably provoke blocks and has no more valuable archetype for that vampire.
