About Smite
Smite, Combat, designed by Heather V. Kreiter first released in April 2006 in the set Nights of Reckoning.
Smite would mainly benefit a combat-focused deck that regularly fights vampires carrying electronic equipment and can reliably obtain a maneuver or otherwise exploit ranged strikes, such as a gun-combat or aggravated-damage deck, but its three-blood cost is extremely high for a card that can be completely negated by a dodge and whose equipment clause may do nothing; in most decks, cards such as Target Vitals provide more efficient damage, while Immortal Grapple, Psyche!, or Disarm usually create stronger combat advantages depending on the deck’s plan, and dedicated equipment hate such as Disarm or equipment-destruction effects is generally more reliable than Smite’s conditional clause. Smite should therefore rarely see play: it is a narrow metagame choice for a combat deck facing equipment-heavy environments, but it is not efficient enough for a normal combat package.
