About Tainted Spring
Tainted Spring, Action modifier, designed by Nicolas "Dimple" Bigot first released in May 2018 in the set Keepers of Tradition Reprint and was printed exactly in 2 different ways.
Tainted Spring fits a dedicated Animalism deck that repeatedly recruits animal allies or employs damage-dealing animal retainers, particularly one that can use the extra strength or damage over several combats. At superior Animalism, the extra starting life also makes those animals harder to remove. It is much less attractive in a deck that plays only a few animals: you must draw it when announcing the right action, pay its cost, and then succeed at that action before it does anything. There is no universally better replacement for its particular boost, but **Deep Song** often offers more broadly useful action pressure, while **Carrion Crows** is usually a more direct choice if your goal is combat damage. I’d consider Tainted Spring as a niche one- or two-copy card in an animal-heavy deck, not a staple in a general Animalism deck.
