Darkness Within best fits an OBT combat deck that wants to grind down an opposing vampire over several rounds, especially one that can keep combat going and benefit from the blood it steals; its optional maneuver at superior helps manage range, but the card costs an action in hand and only pays off if combat lasts long enough. For straightforward blood theft and combat pressure, Theft of Vitae is generally better: it can steal more blood in a single strike and doesn’t need to sit in play through multiple rounds, though it requires a strike and is less useful against non-blood minions. Darkness Within can still be worthwhile as a niche, reusable-in-combat option in a deck built around prolonged combat, but it is not an automatic inclusion—use it if your strategy reliably extends combat and has room for setup cards; otherwise favor more immediate combat tools.
