Spike-Thrower, Equipment, designed by David Day first released in November 2005 in the set Legacies of Blood.

Spike-Thrower is most useful in a defensive wall, intercept, or combat-control deck that can reliably block opposing vampires and keep combat at long range, since its real value is not the modest 1R damage but temporarily denying the opposing vampire’s next unlock; it can also support rush decks that want to keep key opposing vampires tapped after combat. However, it is quite narrow: it requires an equipment action, needs the strike to hit, is vulnerable to damage prevention, works only at long range, and occupies a weapon slot while providing little damage. For general-purpose combat, cards such as .44 Magnum, Sniper Rifle, or Ivory Bow are usually stronger because they offer greater or more reliable damage, while for pure blocking and lockdown, cards that provide superior intercept or recurring combat control are generally preferable. Spike-Thrower can be a clever metagame choice in a deck built around long-range blocking and repeated combat, but it is not an automatic inclusion and
