Outcast Mage

About Outcast Mage

Outcast Mage, Ally, designed by Susan Van Camp first released in August 1994 in the set Jyhad and was printed exactly in 2 different ways.

Outcast Mage would mainly benefit a Tremere ally or combat deck—especially one using cards such as The Unmasking, Heidelberg Castle, and other support that makes allies more durable or effective—because its optional maneuver and 2R strike let it make combat difficult for opposing allies and weaker vampires while still providing a bleed of 1; however, its 3-pool cost, only 2 life, zero strength, and lack of special durability make it inefficient. Nephandus is generally better for Tremere ally decks because it costs less and offers a more threatening combat ability, while Ponticulus is a better cheap utility ally and Carlton Van Wyk or similar defensive allies are usually more valuable in broader decks; therefore, Outcast Mage is a flavorful but niche inclusion and should rarely see competitive play unless the deck specifically wants additional maneuvering allies or has strong ally recursion and protection.
