Mask Empathy

About Mask Empathy

Mask Empathy, Combat, designed by Brian LeBlanc first released in November 2003 in the set Black Hand.

Mask Empathy fits a Presence combat deck that regularly faces dangerous retainers and can afford to spend a card slot on a narrow answer. Its superior effect is the stronger mode: burning a retainer before range is determined avoids needing to land a strike, though it costs 1 blood. It is generally worse as a default deck choice than broader combat cards that help against most opponents; there is no universally better substitute if your specific goal is to burn an opposing retainer during combat. I would keep it out of a typical deck, but consider one or two copies if retainers are common in your playgroup or a key part of a deck you need to beat.
