About High Stakes

High Stakes, Political action, designed by Stuart Beel first released in August 1994 in the set Jyhad and was printed exactly in 2 different ways.

High Stakes primarily benefits a dedicated Ventrue political deck built for the optional ante format, especially one with strong stealth, vote manipulation, and referendum-locking effects, because its potential to force every Methuselah to risk a card or be ousted is enormous; however, it is unusable in normal VTES games, and even in ante play opponents can simply choose to ante their next library card, making the outcome unreliable. In ordinary Ventrue political decks, Parity Shift is far better for consistent pool gain and damage, while Kine Resources Contested is another stronger, more generally useful political action; therefore, High Stakes should not see normal competitive play and belongs only in a dedicated ante-themed or highly casual deck where its unique, dramatic effect is the point.
