Glancing Blow, Combat, designed by Patrick McEvoy first released in September 2006 in the set Third Edition and was printed exactly in 4 different ways.

Glancing Blow is most useful in decks whose minions lack Fortitude but want to survive combat while still making a damaging strike, such as weenie gun decks or some ally decks; it can also prevent 1 aggravated damage, since its text does not restrict the damage type. Its main drawback is “do not replace until your next unlock phase”: you temporarily lose a card from your usable hand for a very small defensive effect, and it protects only against the opposing minion’s strike, not other damage sources such as environmental damage. If your vampires have Fortitude, **Skin of Rock** is generally better, preventing 1 damage at basic Fortitude or 2 at superior without delaying replacement; **Soak** is stronger against non-aggravated damage, preventing 2 or 4 depending on discipline level. Without a discipline requirement, **Dodge** is often better for simply surviving a dangerous opposing strike, although it uses your strike and therefore stops you from striking for damage at the same time.
