About Discern
Discern, Power, designed by Thomas Manning first released in April 2006 in the set Nights of Reckoning.
Discern would only benefit a defensive intercept deck whose vampires regularly need to block actions from monsters, particularly a wall or toolbox deck that lacks access to stronger discipline-based reactions; because it costs 0, it is harmless to include, but its restriction makes it extremely narrow and likely dead in many matchups. If your vampires have Auspex, Eyes of Argus is generally better because it provides the same +1 intercept and can untap the reacting vampire after a successful block, while Enhanced Senses is another reliable alternative; untap/wake reactions and stronger intercept or bounce effects are also usually preferable. Discern should generally not see play unless your local metagame contains many monster actions or your deck specifically exploits that restriction—otherwise use broader reaction cards instead.
