About Trap

Trap, Combat, designed by Jeff Rebner, Peter Kim first released in August 1994 in the set Jyhad and was printed exactly in 10 different ways.

Trap belongs in a combat deck that wins by **staying in combat for several rounds**, especially one using recurring damage such as Carrion Crows. Its free, discipline-free presses can keep that damage coming, and cards played during combat refresh its counters. It is less useful if the opponent can reliably press to end combat or end combat with a strike. Where your vampires have the disciplines, **Aid from Bats** is often a better source of presses for Animalism decks because it also provides a useful strike or maneuver; **Psyche!** is better for Celerity decks specifically trying to overcome strikes that end combat. Trap is worth playing in a deck built to exploit repeated rounds, but it is usually a niche choice rather than a general-purpose combat staple.

Rules

10/08/2026

The provided press is applied before any other press. Another press cannot be used to continue (eg. {Boxed In}, {Talbot's Chainsaw}) if there's already a press to continue. [ANK 20200525-1]

10/08/2026

A minion that cannot play or use presses (eg. {Mukhtar Bey}) can play it and does provide the presses, the minion is not the one pressing. [LSJ 20040521]
