About Set's Call
Set's Call, Reaction, designed by Dennis Calero first released in June 2001 in the set Final Nights and was printed exactly in 2 different ways.
Set’s Call mainly benefits a defensive Serpentis/Setite deck that blocks regularly and expects ally- or retainer-heavy opponents, since it turns an otherwise undesirable block into a guaranteed theft while avoiding combat, but its narrow requirement makes it a metagame card rather than a staple: against ordinary vampire or bleed decks it is a dead card, and even against allies it only works when you successfully block the recruit action. For stealing allies proactively, `Entrancement` is generally better because it does not require the opponent to recruit first and gives you more control over when the theft happens; for retainers, ordinary combat or intercept solutions are usually more broadly useful. Set’s Call should see play as a one-of or small inclusion in a Serpentis wall or toolbox deck when your local meta contains many ally and retainer decks, but it usually should not occupy deck space in a general Setite build.
