Robert Carter

About Robert Carter

Robert Carter, Retainer, designed by Lawrence Snelly first released in May 2004 in the set Gehenna and was printed exactly in 2 different ways.

Robert Carter is best in a dedicated stealth-bleed or high-volume bleed deck, particularly one using large vampires or reliable blood gain, because a repeatable +2 bleed can make every action threatening and force the prey to spend wakes and bounce effects; it is much less attractive in combat, intercept, or toolbox decks, where paying 1 blood every unlock phase is a serious burden and the retainer can be removed or the vampire can be rushed. There is no broadly superior permanent +2-bleed retainer, but bleed decks generally prefer flexible modifiers such as Conditioning or Foreshadowing Destruction, which provide comparable or better burst for only the actions that matter and do not create an ongoing upkeep obligation. Carter should see play in a dedicated bleed build that can sustain its blood cost, but it is not an automatic inclusion and is usually inferior to more efficient, discipline-based bleed packages in competitive decks.
