About Backways

Backways, Master, designed by Nicola Leonard, Chet Masters, Mike Chaney, Cl first released in August 1994 in the set Jyhad and was printed exactly in 6 different ways.

Backways is best in a stealth-oriented Gangrel deck—especially one that makes several important actions each turn, such as a bleed, vote, or toolbox deck—because it provides repeatable stealth without using cards from your hand. It is less useful in a combat-focused or blocking deck that takes few actions, and its 2-pool cost, unique status, and master-card-slot competition matter. Protean stealth modifiers such as **Earth Control** can be better when you need more stealth on a particular action, but they are not a straight upgrade: they use hand slots and are not a reusable location. I’d include Backways when your deck regularly has a Gangrel action that needs a little more stealth and lacks enough alternatives; it is a useful support card, not an automatic include.
