Obsidian fits an **independent Gargoyle deck** that can use his disciplines and Flight, especially a combat-focused build; his independence also means he does not need a Tremere-based plan. He is not an automatic inclusion, though: Flight alone is rarely enough to justify a 5-capacity vampire. A cheaper Gargoyle with the disciplines your deck needs, or a similarly priced one with a stronger special ability, will often be a better choice—but there is no single card that is better in every Gargoyle deck. **Play Obsidian if your deck specifically benefits from his discipline spread and independence; otherwise, he is a reasonable card to cut.**
