Guard Dogs fits an Animalism **wall or intercept-combat deck** that regularly locks its vampires on its own turn but still wants them ready to block incoming bleeds. At superior Animalism, the optional maneuver is a useful bonus if a block leads to combat. For general defense, **On the Qui Vive** is usually more flexible because it works against actions other than bleeds, though Guard Dogs has the important advantage of leaving the vampire unlocked even if it never blocks. **Eyes of Argus** is another strong alternative in a deck with Auspex. Guard Dogs is worth a few slots if your Animalism deck specifically needs that lasting unlock or can make good use of the maneuver; otherwise, I would prioritize more broadly usable reactions.
